Jammu, Aug 03: After the brutalities of police on Jammuites it was the turn of Army to take over from them. Notwithstanding the bouquets army got from the residents yesterday it showed its brutal face to the common citizens today with its officers thrashing, abusing and threatening not only the people but also those who carry valid curfew passes. The Executive Editor of THE SHADOW King C Bharati was today manhandled by an army Major named Himanshu of Artillery division at Janipur this morning when he heard some cries of an old lady being beaten by army men and wanted to cover the event. The Major snatched the curfew pass of the Executive Editor and hurled abuses on him besides manhandling him. On argument the men of the Major threatened the senior scribe with guns and also filmed him to show the 'catch' to their boss. Maj Himanshu first thought of letting him off but when he came to know that he was an Editor he was furious and said Press has been banned and snatched the curfew pass saying they have instructions to keep press people inside their houses. No argument convinced him and instead he displayed arrogance and guns to Bharati for arguments. Later when Defence PRO Lt Col SD Goswami was contacted he washed his hands off saying Tiger Division was dealing directly. But when Col Sukhbir Singh of G Branch was contacted he was surprised why an officer of the rank of Major should do this. He said the Major was totally wrong and assured not only to complain to the higher authorities but also return the Curfew Pass of the Editor. However no curfew pass was returned till the filing of this report and the editor had to come to office through various by-lanes to publish the newspaper. Condemning the incident RK Bharati Foundation Delhi Unit chief Rockey Pandita said that the manhandling of King C Bharati was an attack on the freedom of press and sought immediate action against the Major. He said that media has always been supportive of army but when it comes to army it has always showed its volt face when needed. Meanwhile all the media fraternity has condemned today's collective assault on media at various places besides the Take-1 and JK Channels.
